Loving and Serving Our Neighbors
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families, he leads the prisoners with singing - Psalms 68:5-6
Throughout scripture we read of God's loving compassion for those who are oppressed and suffering. In the gospels we see this love lived out through Christ's life, as he welcomed outcasts, healed the sick, fed the hungry, and preached good news to the poor. To know God is to know his love and compassion for our neighbors in need.
The goal of GraceCares is to love and serve our neighbors in their time of need. By accomplishing this goal Grace Church will be an agent of healing to the deep wounds of this part of Houston. To find out why, click here. Below you will find some of the opportunities in our area:
- Autumn Grove Cottage: Twice a month, Grace sends teams to serve the residents at Autumn Grove Cottage, a new Alzheimer's home in the Woodlands. We meet at Autumn Grove at 1 pm on Sunday afternoons for a short time of worship and fellowship.
- Christian Restorative Justice Mentors: We mentor parole-eligible inmates at the Eastham Unit near Lovelady, north of Huntsville, on the 4th Sunday afternoon/evening of each month.
- The Community Clinic opened its doors in November of 1996 and provides FREE dental care, medical care, social services, and mental health counseling to the working poor and uninsured living in our community. South Montgomery County has one of the highest uninsured populations in the country.
- Habitat for Humanity: We work to provide housing in South Montgomery County. Workdays are being scheduled.
- Immigrant Ministries: There is a tremendous need to serve the large immigrant population in Montgomery County. We are involved in a variety of different ways.
- Interfaith of the Woodlands is a faith-based organization that brings people together to build a more loving and caring community through service. Programs and services of Interfaith are made possible by many volunteers.
- Tamina Community Center was established in August, 1998. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for the residents of our community. They do this by offering educational programs, activities and services that emphasize self-determination and personal responsibility.
- Pregnancy Assistance Center seeks to provide help, encouragement, and supportive services to women and men in crisis due to pregnancy. They have locations in both the Woodlands and in Conroe.
- Women's Shelter Ministry: Our congregation supports a shelter in our area (known as Sparrow House) for women rescued from sexual slavery. The needs are great, and new opportunities to serve and participate in this ministry are coming up regularly.
