Celebrate

We believe Christian worship celebrates what God is doing in the world through Jesus Christ. No matter where you are, spiritually - skeptical, curious about Christianity, or a committed follower of Jesus Christ - worship points us to what we all need, Jesus.

Participating in worship is our primary calling, a requisite component of our growth, a transformational experience, and one of the best ways to discover Jesus and develop a relationship with him.  Ralph Waldo Emerson writes this,

That which dominates our imagination and our thoughts will determine our life and character.  Therefore it behooves us to be careful what we are worshiping, for what we are worshiping we are becoming.

We believe we were all created for worship.  When we do not worship God, we will worship other—finite—things; we set our hearts on relationships, careers, money, accomplishments, approval, comfort, power, and control.  In our services, we aim to pull our affections off these things and set them on the One who longs to satisfy us.

How do we accomplish this?

  • Worship that is both traditional and dynamic.  We attempt to combine an appreciation for the richness of the church’s liturgical heritage with a vibrancy that is refreshing—especially to those who may have been away from the church for some time.  We avoid both uncomfortable novelty and stuffy formality.
  • Worship that is both God-centered and seeker-sensitive.  We attempt to combine a transcendent focus on Jesus Christ with a welcoming attitude toward those who are spiritually skeptical or curious.
  • Worship that speaks to the mind and to the heart.  We attempt to provide services that are both deep and practical, both intellectually challenging and emotionally satisfying.  We avoid both barren intellectualism and empty emotionalism.
